Bhai-dooj is another festival which celebrates the love of brother and sister. It is celebrated on 2nd day after Diwali. It falls on the last day of 5-days long Diwali festival (1st day - dhanteras, 2nd day- narkachaudas/narak chaturdashi/chhoti diwali, 3rd day- diwali/deepawali, 4th day- Govardhan pooja/Annakut, 5th day- bhai-dooj/bhai-tilak/bhai-beej). It is a Hindu festival. As per the anecdotes, this festival is inspired from the brother-sister love between yamraj (king of yam-lok) and yamuna. On this occasion, sisters pray to goddess Yamuna for happy, healthy and long life of their brothers. They do the tilak-ceremony (which includes application of long tilak on brother's forehead along with rice and giving dry coconut along with "doob", a type of grass) and offer sweets to their brothers. In return, brothers also offers sweets and other gifts.
